How is the MA structured? Where do I fit in?
As a member, you are the most important part of the MA. You are a part of who we are and your input decides what we do.
The MA’s goals and objectives are overseen by the executive board, made up of 17 Marketing Management students. The VP’s of the executive board each manage their own committee with the help of their directors. The directors are appointed by the VP of their committee and are assigned a specific task within each committee. Each committee is made up of 5-30 general members whose work makes the MA able to be one of the top performing chapters in the AMA!
What can I expect from the MA this year?
This year, the MA is expanding and growing our events roster. Our first big event is Marketing Week, from September 30th to October 4th, MA members will get the opportunity to join a workshop, an industry tour and more! For all our events, visit bcitma.ca/events.
How do I get involved?
Get a taste for the MA by joining us at one of our many events! Hear from industry experts, network with your next employer, meet your faculty, or just get to know your peers better. We post all our events on our Facebook, Instagram, and Website calendar. All events are discounted or free for MA members and ticketed events are kept affordable for the BCIT student body.
Looking for work experience? Become a member and join a committee! Get real world experience by doing professional consulting, event planning, communication development and more! For more information, visit bcitma.ca or email contact@bcitma.ca.
I don’t know which committee to join! What should I do?
Get a sense of what each committee works on by visiting bcitma.ca/category/committees/! If that doesn’t help, get in contact with the VP of the committees that you’re interested in for more information. If that still doesn’t do the trick, sit in on a committee meeting for each of the ones you’re interested in; you can find the committee meeting schedule at bcitma.ca/events
What is this hours thing?
The hours system is in place for members who put a significant amount of work into the MA, whether that be on their own or in a committee. This allows us to recognize those dedicating large amounts of time to the MA by providing reimbursements for our trip to the AMA’s Intercollegiate Conference in New Orleans and helping decide member of the month.
If you are a member who is putting a lot of your time into the MA, speak to your VP or our VP of Membership, Alex Bonifacio for details.
What is this NOLA that everybody is talking about?
NOLA refers to New Orleans, Louisiana. The reference to NOLA relates to the AMA’s Intercollegiate Conference, held every March to bring over 200 chapters and 1,800 students together to compete, network, and learn about marketing. This year, the conference is from March 12-14, 2020 and the MA will be funding up to 30 delegates to attend and represent BCIT.
Want more info? Stay tuned for our NOLA info session in January or contact our President, Hunter Van Dyke, at president@bcitma.ca.
How do I go to NOLA?
Students wishing to attend NOLA must be competing in a competition, and must also be an active member of the club throughout the year. Information about all of the competitions can be found here. The BCITMA will be holding information sessions in January about NOLA, and will be accepting letters of intent to attend the conference in early 2020.
