Semester In Review

BlOOD DRIVE

On November 17, our club partnered with Canadian Blood Services to organize a school-wide blood drive. Blood donation from just one person can help save up to 3 lives! Our VP of Community Relations, Stephanie Somerville took the commendable initiative to organize this event and demonstrate the social responsibility that we strive towards at BCITMA.

Marked by a strong turnout, the blood drive showcased our commitment to creating a better world, a little bit at a time. A big thank you to the participants, both students and faculty, who donated!

fundraising efforts

During the Fall 2023 semester, BCITMA raised funds by collaborating with Krispy Kreme Donuts as well as organizing a homemade bake sale. These activities underscore BCITMA’s ultimate stance as an institution that serves the student body, providing a fun volunteer opportunity for members, and delicious treats for the students and faculty of BCIT.

Funds generated from these events fuel club initiatives like events, industry tours, and community relations activities. These funds also help sponsor the participation of BCITMA in the American Marketing Association International Collegiate Conference (AMAICC), a conference that allows some of our members to increase their skills and connect with industry professionals in the beautiful city of New Orleans.

Our fundraising efforts not only satisfy a sweet tooth but also provide a platform for future ambitious club achievements and lasting memories for our members.

Marketing Week

BCITMA’s membership committee orchestrated a majorly successful Marketing Week, which featured industry professional presentations on career development, an alumni panel, and a Hootsuite industry tour.

Attendees were able to hear valuable perspectives from current professionals on navigating the ever-evolving business landscape, and practical tips on getting a foot in the door at the beginning of a professional career. Our distinguished alumni shared their journeys from graduation to success in industry, offering a real-world perspective to complement attendee’s academic knowledge.

Spearheaded by Alexa Slipec, our VP of Membership, Marketing Week was a wild success and a valuable string of events for attendees.

Public speaking with Erica

On November 15th, Emma Atkinson, our VP of Professional Development, hosted a public speaking workshop with Erica Halvorsen! This popular event gave students a chance to gain or improve their presenting skills through tips and tricks from an expert. By breaking down the entire process of giving a presentation and highlighting ways to switch your mindset, Erica was able to provide attendees with valuable insights.

Kenton Low

Through a partnership with the BCIT School of Business and Media, BCITMA hosted an afternoon with Kenton Low, Dean of the SoB+M on November 22nd. This incredible event allowed Kenton to share his career development journey with attendees. From UBC to Disney, Kenton’s illustrious career has inspired students to aim for excellence. This event had a phenomenal turnout and encouraged students to make deeper connections with various faculty members.

BCIT alumni distinguished awards showcase

On November 2nd, BCITMA had the privilege of sending members of our executive team to BCIT’s Alumni Distinguished Awards Showcase. It was an honour to be able to share our club’s achievements, including being a top 5 Chapter of the Year and earning 2nd place in the Case Competition at the AMA International Collegiate Conference, with BCIT alumni.

Our goal for the evening was to bridge the gap between current BCIT students and alumni, creating opportunities and learning experiences for students while giving alumni a chance to give back and access future BCIT marketing and sales graduates. It was incredible to be given a chance to share our achievements within this environment.

Sleigh bells and silver screens

To wrap up the Fall semester, Rena Dacua, our VP of Events, hosted “Sleigh Bells and Silver Screens”, a movie night to help students to relax before the last push of projects and exams. Home alone was played and festive snacks were enjoyed by all!
