This year’s case financially sponsored by BCIT retired Instructor Glenna Urbshadt. Glenna joined BCIT as an instructor in 1985. She quickly became the Program Head for the Professional Sales option and spent 27 years teaching and inspiring students. She not only cared about their education, but their overall well-being. In addition to sponsoring this competition, Glenna has established two endowments with the BCIT Foundation.
Diagnosed with AL Amyliodosis four years go, Glenna Urbshadt found her way to the BCMOS paddling entre on False Creek through the recommendation of their physciotherapist who strongly encouraged her to sign up for kayaking. “I did and loved it,” Glenna says. “After spending most of my day in a wheelchair, it was so liberating to be on the water and gave me such a sense of normality not to mention freedom.”
Last summer’s paddling season was certainly busy! This July marked the first time that the paddling program was offered seven days a week, and without this change even being publicized, every single booking was immediately snapped up! Glenna enjoyed her experiences kayaking with BCMOS so much that she made a much appreciated donation to BCMOS and is looking forward to participating again in 2020. She is also eager for ways that she can help to support the program in the future.
